Home Improvement: Solving Common Small Bathroom ... - DIY Is Easy

Unless you build your own home, or have the money for an extensive renovation chances are there are things about that home you own that you simply don?t like. It seems like existing bathrooms offer the most difficult home improvement challenges to homeowners. In many cases, when you buy a home you soon discover that no matter how great the design of the rest of the house, the bathroom design seems to have been an afterthought. There is nothing worse than a small cramped bathroom that feels claustrophobic and offers little in terms of comfort. What is worse is most families do not have the money to remove walls or completely renovate their bathrooms so here are some relatively inexpensive tips that may help to solve some of those common bathroom problems and give the illusion of a larger and more comfortable room.

One of the things that make a little bathroom look even smaller is having a broken line for your eye to follow in the bathroom. When you already have a small room, the shower, and shelves can break up the room making it look even more cramped and crowded. One solution to this problem is to create a monotone look to provide the illusion of an unbroken line to give the illusion that your bathroom is more spacious that it actually is. Having you shower, tub walls and any shelves all the same color will make the room seem much more spacious than it actually is. Lighter colors will make a room look even larger that choosing dark colors. And a white bathroom with bright colored accents can make a small room look huge and ultra-sophisticated.

To make that small bathroom look even larger, make the ceiling look higher. You can easily do this by adding a border around the edge of the ceiling that matches your walls and makes the ceiling look recessed giving the air of a higher ceiling. Another thing that makes a small bathroom look larger is by keeping the floor space from looking cluttered. If you don?t need the storage space under the bathroom vanity, then why not take out the vanity and use a pedestal sink. This will open much more floor space and give the entire room a more open and comfortable feel.

Of course keeping the bathroom uncluttered can make that room look far more roomy, cozy and make it easier to clean as well.
