Passenger car sales in China, the world?s largest auto market, rose by 12.3% in June from a year earlier to 1.29 million vehicles, the government-published China Daily newspaper said on Saturday.? The paper cited figures from the China Passenger Car Association released on Friday.
June?s increase was lower than a 13.4% year-on-year rise in May. Sales in June, which is traditionally a slow month for the industry, also were?3.4%?below?the 1.33 million units sold in May, the newspaper said. For the first six months of the year, passenger car sales in the country?climbed 16.7% to 8.18 million units.?
Big U.S. automakers in China? earlier last week released sales gains for June. Ford, benefitting from the release of new models, said shipments increased by 44%.? (Click here for more details.) And GM said sales of its brands rose by 11%. (See related story here.)
